The End of the -Semester- is Here

The last day of classes was May 7, which was a Thursday. I didn't really notice. I still had a lot of stuff to do. The day before I had turned in a paper and I still had a final exam to do for another class and a major project for a third class. The final exam was in seven pieces--fifty short questions and two long ones. It took me about five hours. I finished and then went running. Hannah tried on my headphones for good measure.

The project was up next. It was 60 pages long. I turned it in Tuesday. The rest of the week I went to work and helped write a conference proposal and a chapter proposal and did my part of another findings project.

Brian proctored a final, finished his final assignments and did grading for his classes. I met with my adviser. So did Brian.

Away from work, I wrote my dissertation proposal and coordinated the preliminary defense. My major professor's back is out and everyone is leaving soon for summer fun so it was tricky to settle on a time that everyone could attend. I had a tooth follow up but the dentist called and cancelled it because they were very busy. My tooth still hurts.

I think Mother's Day was somewhere in there. I woke up early so we could get to 8:30 a.m. sacrament meeting, but I couldn't stir anyone else, so I left my dress on and crawled back in bed. Brian got up about an hour later and we made it in time for me to teach my class. Hannah made me some pictures and gave me a necklace her dad helped her buy. I made dinner. Well, I threw raw food in a crock pot and came back several hours later and we ate it. I did a roast with onions and several colors of bell peppers to make for a good plate presentation. Brian made the rice.

My mother send me some Mother's Day gifts. Hannah and sat in the kitchen for 20 minutes discussing whether the gifts came from MY mommy or HER mommy. In the end we decided to share.

By this past Friday, I had my final paper back, my final exam graded, an my final project accepted.  Finally, I am done. The great and dreadful semester has drawn to a close.

Wrapping up the Year (and Decade)

The Year-Long January

The joke is that January is the longest month of the year. I thought it went quickly. Classes started and winter cold set in. We went to the eye doctor and Hannah waited for the doctor so long, she grew a beard.  Ultimately she decided on glasses that would make her look like Supergirl. I think she really pulled it off. All month I was on pins and needles about the government shutdown trying to decide if it was safe to fly to a conference. Luckily for me, the poor TSA workers and federal folks were able to get back to work. However, the planes I took (4 in all) were mostly empty and I got a row to myself. There was also a polar vortex that didn't help air travel looks appealing. I got there late at night and the room they had left was a large hotel suite. I took it. My colleague Michael Dunn and I divided our presentation up. We both did well. I also found a few good folks from Kansas. Then, I left Indy. When I wasn't worki...

Graduation and Mother's Day

It was my turn to help with activity night at church so I brought my graduation robes and so forth and let the little girls take turns all dressed up. Here of the pillow announcing Mother's Day.  As it turns out, there is an actual graduation song.     I went to convocation and read the names again.    Then, Mother's Day actually arrived. Here is my custom drawn picture.
