Time for Halloween

I went to Washington DC the second week of October and I was there in the middle of a heat wave. It was still 90 degrees. The hurricane hit just as I left.

When I returned, it was fall break. Hannah wanted to do a superhero camp at the local children's science center. It was superhero themed. Here is she is as we dropped her off.

Then, there was the balloon fiesta. We went to a part of town where you could see balloons but didn't have to fight for parking and then ... out for pizza.

That Saturday was a pumpkin festival and so off we went. It was still pretty hot outside. Here we are trying to look aloof and cool.

We had decorated for Halloween several weeks ago, but I finally got around to getting some pictures.

Hannah was a police officer this year. We went to the Autumn Festival Fundraiser at her school and she went through her first Haunted House and played games for candy and prizes.

As the big day closed in, we painted the pumpkin. She did a skeleton this year with no assistance from me. I was only there to pour the paint and keep her company.

And then came the rain. Three days of rain and cold. When it was over, I had a sinus infection.

The school takes an intercession break in October. Before they do so, they have an assembly. Hannah got awards for math and reading. She also got an attendance award.

I brought treats to her class and went I got there she was reading and teaching the children how to make predictions.

She was really sad about not having a party last year so we threw one this year. I invited 13 children and 12 showed up. We had sandwiches and cake. The weather cooperated. It was my most successful party to date.  Recall that I have awful sinus infection.

I can't believe it worked. But I am going to do everything I can to not have to do it again.

One of her presents was a jigsaw puzzle with 300 pieces. We knocked it out over four days, everyone just doing a little as they walked by.

Finally, the halloween haul. Unsorted.

And sorted.

A couple of days after, she came to work with me and we ate at Chick-fil-A on campus. She was amazed that there would be a Chick-fil-A on campus.

Wrapping up the Year (and Decade)

Christmas was nice. The weather was good and I was able to run like I usually do. I served a Thanksgiving Dinner because I spent Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania with my sister. The Year-Long January

The joke is that January is the longest month of the year. I thought it went quickly. Classes started and winter cold set in. We went to the eye doctor and Hannah waited for the doctor so long, she grew a beard.  Ultimately she decided on glasses that would make her look like Supergirl. I think she really pulled it off. All month I was on pins and needles about the government shutdown trying to decide if it was safe to fly to a conference. Luckily for me, the poor TSA workers and federal folks were able to get back to work. However, the planes I took (4 in all) were mostly empty and I got a row to myself. There was also a polar vortex that didn't help air travel looks appealing. I got there late at night and the room they had left was a large hotel suite. I took it. My colleague Michael Dunn and I divided our presentation up. We both did well. I also found a few good folks from Kansas. Then, I left Indy. When I wasn't worki...

Graduation and Mother's Day

It was my turn to help with activity night at church so I brought my graduation robes and so forth and let the little girls take turns all dressed up. Here of the pillow announcing Mother's Day.  As it turns out, there is an actual graduation song.     I went to convocation and read the names again.    Then, Mother's Day actually arrived. Here is my custom drawn picture.
