Post-Indepdence Day July Fun

We were gone on our trip on the 4th of July, but on the 5th we had barbecue chicken and this amazing stars and stripes pie I found in some stuff my mom sent me on Pinterest.

When we returned we also had a lot of errands to run. One of them was to pay Hannah's preschool tuition for the upcoming year. So we stopped by the Arts Center to do just that and Hannah saw an interactive X-wing exhibit.

We do live in the Midwest, so this is the time of the year for big storms. Here's another poor tree. I didn't witness its demise this time.

Over the weekend Hannah and I got haircuts and went shopping. Then we went out to by boss' house in Topeka for a pool party. Hannah jumped in the 5 foot deep end before I could get my shorts and t-shirt off and get in with her. Of course, she started to panic and slosh in the water. Luckily another parent already in the pool pulled her out. Still fearless, she put on a life jacket and got right back in, but I was able to keep her in the shallow end.

She did some good floating though.

And played with lots of toys.

I was in the pool with her most of the time, but I did get out to take the pics. There are also other children and adults in the pool, but I cropped them out. There were actually like about 50 people at this party.

Here I am relaxing poolside. I used about a gallon of sunscreen to try to keep from burning. When I got home I had red patches on the tops of my shoulders, but not full on burns. Hannah had no red whatsoever.

And it wouldn't be a party without cake. And if Hannah eats your cake, she can't do it without making a messy face.

The other food was not really kid food, so I bought her chicken nuggets on the way home. Cake and chicken nuggets. The mother-of-the-year award is in the mail ...

The Year-Long January

The joke is that January is the longest month of the year. I thought it went quickly. Classes started and winter cold set in. We went to the eye doctor and Hannah waited for the doctor so long, she grew a beard. Ultimately she decided on glasses that would make her look like Supergirl. I think she really pulled it off. All month I was on pins and needles about the government shutdown trying to decide if it was safe to fly to a conference. Luckily for me, the poor TSA workers and federal folks were able to get back to work. However, the planes I took (4 in all) were mostly empty and I got a row to myself. There was also a polar vortex that didn't help air travel looks appealing. I got there late at night and the room they had left was a large hotel suite. I took it. Wrapping up the Year (and Decade)

Christmas was nice. The weather was good and I was able to run like I usually do. I served a Thanksgiving Dinner because I spent Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania with my sister. It has been a busy decade. I only have two years where something major didn't happen. On to 2020. Bygone April

We decorated for Easter in April. Low key, but cute. Hannah helped make some of them. She even did this painting of the eggs. And the ceramic ornament in the little house. After Easter I went to Toronto for AERA. After AERA Easter came. We went to the annual Easter egg hunt. And colored our own eggs. And went to church. At the end of the month, we visited my parents in Utah, traveling by plane. It was sunny one of the days and cloudy and rainy the rest, but the visit was nice. And that was April.
